All magicians should be using QLab. Here's why
A discussion between Max Davidson and Jason Silberman.
Below is an edited transcript of a conversation between me and my good friend Jason Silberman, where we get into why all magicians (and variety performers), should be using QLab. We hope we convince you:
Why did we both switch to using QLab?
Jason: We’re here to talk about QLab, which is a software that a lot of theaters use for sound and lighting and other media cues in their shows. But as solo performers, you and I have started using this in the last year and a half, and it’s really changed the game for us.
Max: It’s made our shows more professional. It just opens up another toolkit of things that we can do. It allows you to control timing in a really cool way. This will sound like an advertisement, but it’s not, and I think that’s how you know how good it is.
I was watching my girlfriend rehearse her show the other day (get tickets folks), and she was switching between some slides she made on Canva, going back to iTunes to play music, and it’s like, that’s why QLab exists, because it takes all those different elements and puts them together into one software.
So I think if you’re reading this interview, you subscribe to one of our Substacks, and that means that you have a certain interest in doing your own show. And even if you are a comedian, even if you are a storyteller, not a magician, you can use this software to just streamline your entire show. For example, you can do a PowerPoint show on QLab, it opens up a million more possibilities.
So I’m excited to talk about what we’ve gotten out of it, why you should use it, some tips and tricks we’ve both learned, et cetera.
